I have washed all the soap off the belt and the squeeking came back.
I loosened the belt and the squeeking has stopped.
I am still a tiny bit uneasy running the belt slacker than Suzuki recommend, but I'm going to try it for a while. The belt is nowhere near slack enough to slip on the teeth.
AND I have saved £12.99 by not buying the belt dressing. So Hogrider, have your next beer on me!
